Sunflower Pillow Case Set is made from 100% organic natural cotton and a traditional woven fabric of Bali, called Endek. This combination combines a natural base colour with a bright earthy design so often associated with our Balinese aesthetic. The greys and pinks in this Endek design takes us to overcast and cloudy days. The trimming of the pillow case also uses the same natural dyes and fabric, but is interwoven with silver thread.
A Little About Endek
As far as history shows, it was always important for Balinese people to have a skill. Especially developing something creative. Like the Rangrang, a woven fabric in Nusa Penida, Bali also has a woven fabric called Endek.
The hand woven methods of making fabrics is not uncommon in Bali, it is a way of identifying who they are as well as a form of legacy for future generations. Although Endek can be traced back to the 18th century, its fast development only began since the 80’s. The origin of Endek is in Gelgel Klungkung during the reign of King Dalem Waturenggong. He developed the skill amongst his people, especially in Sulang Village.
Balinese Endek fabric often displays themes from flora fauna and natural landscapes. Like our Sunflower Pillow Case Set which takes its theme from the forest. What makes the Endek fabric special is it usually is made from natural dyes. This has become a special quality associated with this fabric.
Today, Balinese Endek enjoys a lasting popularity. Amongst Balinese as well as foreigners. Perhaps most notable is Christian Dior’s collaboration with this industry and using the Balinese Endek in Dior Designs.
